Brands and News

Hello all,

It’s been a while and I apologise for that but things have been rather busy. I’ve been getting weddings edited and handed over. I’ve been shooting and producing product for portraits. And I’ve been trying to take things a little easier as I tend to work around 80-110 hours per week.

My big plan for 2011 is to diversify my brand. My wedding work will continue under the RXAphotography framework as people know that, but my non-wedding work will be under my name, Richard Annable. This will de-clutter the website a little and allow more focussed delivery in the future.

The branding will look like this (the photo from the recent Tommy & Phil Emmanuel 50th anniversary tour).

Photo of the day #108 - Tommy Emmanuel Speaking of Tommy Emmanuel, I am flying to Adelaide on Saturday to photograph his concert with the aim of shooting some promotional material for his upcoming European tour with his full band. I can’t wait for the experience and look forward to sharing some of my favourites from the shoot.

Hopefully more articles coming your way shortly! Thanks for hanging around.

{Melbourne Portrait Photographer} Testimonial

I just received this testimonial from Claire (of Claire & Philip fame):

“Dearest Richard,

What can I say - You’re an amazingly, talented and remarkable photographer. The photographs that you took are truly beautiful. The way that you captured in different scenery and lighting, it really shows how deeply in love we are and how much we mean to each other. You have a brilliant way of making us feel so comfortable and relaxed and let’s face it, we would have never climbed a tree or danced under a Rotunda in front of everyone like we did. It was almost illegal how much fun we had and how badly we want to do it again!

I will be highly recommending you to everyone, even though your work does speak for itself. We honestly just had the best experience, the greatest time of our lives and some gorgeous photographs to remember it by.

Richard, from the bottom of our hearts thank you so much. You have given us some wonderful keepsakes and I do assure you, the day we get our house is the day our photos go on the wall and the day that Phil proposes is the day I will contact you for our next shoot. Guaranteed!

Claire & Philip”

Thank you so much guys. Your shoot was great fun and I can’t wait for you to pick up your photographs!

{Melbourne Event Photographer} Police Graduation

Photo of the day #49 - One of Victorian’s new Police ConstablesToday I had the honour of being asked to photograph the Victorian Police Academy graduation. A good friend of mine was one of the graduates and also received an award.

Not wanting to post the photograph without some form of permission I approached Simon Overland, the Victorian Police Comissioner. If your are going to get permission, you might as well go to the top! Verbal permission was indeed granted, with the understanding that if requested the photograph would be removed. He thanked me for asking permission first and was quite impressed with the photograph.

{Melbourne Portrait Photographer} Charlotte

Photo of the day #47 - Tribute to Jerry. One of my favourite wedding/portrait photographers is Jerry Ghionis. I had the pleasure of spending five minutes with him one-on-one at the PMA Digital Life Expo earlier this year and a nicer man you will not meet.

A photograph of Jessica Schembri that he took during their engagement session has always been in my mind since the day I saw it.

Jessica Schembri photographed by Jerry Ghionis.

I finally found a subject with the jaw structure and figure to try and put my own spin on it. I’m no Jerry Ghionis, of that I have no doubt, but I am very pleased with the result.

Taken during the CPW weekend workshop at Echuca.

{Melbourne Portrait Photographer} Charlotte

Photo of the day #46 - Charlotte

No matter if you are an enthusiast or a professional (or somewhere in between), continuing your education is an important step to growth. This and any further photos of Charlotte I pick as photos of the day have all been taken at Echuca on the weekend of 11-12th September at ‘EchucaPalooza 2.5’ with the team from Creative Photo Workshops. This company is owned and operated by my friend Glynn Lavender and my very good friend and mentor, Shelton Muller. These guys know how to run a productive, fun and photographic opportunity packed workshop.

I was an instructor at last years event but thoroughly enjoyed being a partcipant this year as it gave me the chance to take some photographs! I enjoyed being able to experiment a little more without being under the pressure of a paid session.

I met some awesome people I look forward to keeping in touch with for a long time to come.

If you love photograhy and love having fun, I urge you to check out the CPW website or on Facebook. They hold a number of one day courses including “How to use your DSLR camera”, “Creative People Photography”, “Creative Flash Photography” as well as a few extended courses thrown in for good measure. They are even off to the USA shortly to spread the CPW love to the Yanks and to show them how it’s done.

Photo of the day #45 - Madeline & JohnEvery shoot I conduct has what I call the “there it is” moment, the moment when the couple stop thinking about the camera and truly become themselves.

This was that moment.

{Melbourne Wedding Photographer} Miss E

Photo of the day #23 - Miss E - Vanuatu

Vanuatu - Day 2

This is Miss E. She was the flowergirl at Simon and Sarah’s wedding in beautiful Vanuatu. She was not the least bit camera shy and seemed often to appear whenever I had the camera out.

We spent the morning at the markets looking at the local wares and browsing through some of the stores. It was great checking my account balance at the ATM as it displayed in the local currency and was about 90 times my actual amount. I still have the receipt somewhere as I doubt I’ll ever see something like that amount in my bank account again!

This photograph is from lunchtime. We are all at a little spot where the feature attraction is an underwater postbox. The venue also sold underwater (waterproof) postcards that could be posted in the afore-mentioned postbox.  We had the afternoon to ourselves before the rehearsal dinner.
